A quick and easy banana bread recipe featuring rich brown butter and melty chocolate chips for an ultra-moist, flavorful loaf perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 very ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, browned and cooled slightly
  • 1/2 cup (100g) packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (135g) semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Stir continuously as it foams and then begins to brown, turning a rich amber color with a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy lifting.
  3. In a large bowl, combine mashed bananas, browned butter (warm, not hot), brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir gently until combined; a few lumps are fine.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture gently with a spatula until just combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips evenly throughout the batter.
  7. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 15 minutes, then lift out using parchment paper and cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Brown the butter carefully to avoid burning; stir constantly and watch the color. Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread tender. Toss chocolate chips in a tablespoon of flour before folding in to prevent sinking. Let the bread cool completely before slicing to avoid crumbling. For gluten-free option, substitute flour with a 1:1 gluten-free baking blend. For vegan version, use browned coconut oil, flax eggs, and dairy-free chocolate chips.
