A quick and easy 10-minute DIY Halloween treat featuring a large chocolate chip cookie base with an intricate black spiderweb design created using a simple dotting and dragging technique.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • 1–2 tablespoons black gel food coloring
  • White chocolate chips or icing (optional, for contrast)

Instructions

  1. Cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together on medium-high speed for 3-4 minutes until pale and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Mix until just combined and scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  3. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to the wet mixture on low speed and mix until just combined.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips by hand until evenly distributed.
  5. Divide about 1/3 of the cookie dough into a separate bowl and mix in the black gel food coloring until uniform.
  6. Press the remaining 2/3 of the plain dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet into a large circle (approx. 12 inches wide).
  7. Dot small bits of the black dough randomly all over the plain dough base.
  8. Using a toothpick, drag from the center outward to the edge, then drag from outer dots toward the center to create a web pattern.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 15-18 minutes until edges are golden brown but center is still slightly soft.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for at least 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Keep the dough cold to prevent the web design from blurring. Use gel food coloring instead of liquid to maintain dough consistency. Do not overbake; the cookie will firm up as it cools. Can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
