A quick and easy recipe for perfectly crisp-tender asparagus spears with a golden Parmesan crust, made in the air fryer for a healthy and delicious snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bunch fresh asparagus (about 1 pound / 450 grams), trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (or melted butter for a richer flavor)
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Wash and trim the woody ends off about 1 pound (450 grams) of fresh asparagus. Pat dry with a kitchen towel.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine asparagus with 2 tablespoons olive oil, 2 minced garlic cloves, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Toss well to coat evenly.
  3. Sprinkle 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese over the asparagus and toss gently to distribute.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes.
  5. Arrange asparagus in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Air fry for 7-9 minutes, shaking the basket or turning with tongs halfway through, until asparagus is tender with slightly charred tips and a golden Parmesan crust.
  7. Remove from air fryer and serve immediately. Optionally, sprinkle with red pepper flakes or a squeeze of lemon juice.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking and crispiness. Use freshly grated Parmesan for the best crust. Watch the cheese near the end of cooking to prevent burning; lower temperature to 375°F if needed. For thicker asparagus stalks, add 1-2 extra minutes of cooking time. Garlic powder can be used if fresh garlic is unavailable.
