Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground chicken (or finely chopped chicken thighs for more juiciness)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Thai bird’s eye chilies, finely chopped (adjust to taste, or use serranos)
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (neutral oil like canola or sunflower works best)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari/coconut aminos for gluten-free)
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp fish sauce (optional)
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
  • Juice of half a lime
  • 12 oz (340g) fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: pinch of chili flakes

Instructions

  1. Mince the garlic, finely chop the chilies (remove seeds if less heat desired), and thinly slice the onion. Trim the green beans by snapping off the ends. (Prep time about 10 minutes)
  2. In a bowl, mix ground chicken with soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce (if using), and brown sugar. Stir to combine and let sit while heating the pan.
  3. Toss green beans with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and chili flakes if using. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Arrange beans in a single layer and air fry for 8-10 minutes, shaking basket halfway through until crisp and blistered but still green.
  4. Heat 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic and chopped chilies; stir-fry about 30 seconds until fragrant without burning.
  5. Add sliced onions and stir-fry for 1 minute until slightly softened. Add marinated chicken, breaking apart with spatula. Cook 5-7 minutes until cooked through and starting to brown.
  6. Turn off heat, add fresh Thai basil leaves, and squeeze lime juice over the top. Stir gently to wilt basil without losing flavor.
  7. Serve Thai basil chicken alongside crispy air fried green beans. Optionally serve with steamed jasmine rice or cauliflower rice.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the pan to avoid steaming the chicken. Add basil off heat to keep flavor vibrant. Shake air fryer basket halfway through cooking green beans for even crisping. If chicken looks dry, add splash of water or broth. Re-crisp green beans in air fryer if reheating. Use tamari or coconut aminos for gluten-free version.
