Flavorful Fig and Goat Cheese Flatbread - featured image

A quick and easy flatbread recipe combining sweet figs, tangy goat cheese, peppery arugula, and a spicy hot honey drizzle for a delicious and elegant snack or light meal.

Ingredients

  • Flatbread dough or store-bought flatbread (e.g., Boboli)
  • Olive oil, for brushing
  • Sea salt, for sprinkling
  • Fresh figs, sliced (ripe but firm; dried figs rehydrated if fresh not available)
  • Goat cheese, softened (e.g., Chevre)
  • Fresh arugula
  • Red onion, thinly sliced (optional)
  • Hot honey (honey infused with chili flakes or spicy honey like Mike’s Hot Honey)
  • Freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats for about 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the flatbread base: place store-bought flatbread on a parchment-lined baking sheet or roll out homemade dough to about 12 inches in diameter on a lightly floured surface. Brush lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt.
  3. Slice figs about 1/4 inch thick. Dot softened goat cheese evenly over the flatbread, then arrange fig slices over and around the cheese. Add thinly sliced red onion if using.
  4. Bake the flatbread on the pizza stone or baking sheet for 10–12 minutes until edges are golden and crisp and goat cheese is soft and slightly browned.
  5. Remove from oven and scatter a generous handful of fresh arugula over the flatbread. Drizzle hot honey evenly on top and finish with freshly cracked black pepper.
  6. Slice into wedges and serve immediately while warm.

Notes

Use a hot oven and preheated pizza stone for a crisp crust. Spread goat cheese in dollops for creamy pockets. Drizzle hot honey for a spicy-sweet finish. Avoid overloading toppings to keep crust crisp. For vegan version, substitute goat cheese with plant-based soft cheese and honey with agave syrup mixed with chili flakes. Reheat leftovers in a 375°F oven for 5–7 minutes to maintain crispness.
