Transform classic deviled eggs into spooky spider treats with simple ingredients and minimal effort. These creamy, tangy eggs feature celery or pretzel stick legs and are perfect for Halloween parties or quick snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large eggs, hard-boiled and peeled
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (full-fat recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon pickle juice or vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Paprika for dusting
  • Celery sticks cut into thin slivers or pretzel sticks for legs

Instructions

  1. Place eggs in a single layer in a saucepan and cover with cold water by an inch. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat, cover, and let sit for 12 minutes.
  2. Transfer eggs immediately to an ice bath and let cool completely (10-15 minutes) to stop cooking and ease peeling.
  3. Peel the eggs by tapping and rolling them gently on the counter until the shell slides off.
  4. Slice each egg in half lengthwise and scoop out the yolks into a medium mixing bowl, being careful not to tear the whites.
  5. Mash the yolks with a fork until completely smooth with no lumps.
  6. Add mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, yellow mustard, pickle juice, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to the yolks. Mix thoroughly and taste to adjust seasoning.
  7. Transfer the yolk mixture into a ziplock bag, seal tight, and snip off one corner to create a piping bag.
  8. Pipe the filling into the center of each egg white half.
  9. Cut celery or pretzel sticks into thin, matchstick-sized pieces (about 8 per spider).
  10. Press four pieces into the filling on each side of the egg to create legs.
  11. Dust the tops generously with paprika.
  12. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

[‘Use eggs that are about a week old for easier peeling.’, ‘If making ahead, boil and peel eggs up to 2 days in advance, but assemble and add legs just before serving to maintain crispness.’, ‘Dust with paprika right before serving to prevent it from dissolving into the filling.’, ‘For a lighter option, substitute half the mayonnaise with Greek yogurt.’, ‘Pretzel sticks can be used instead of celery for sturdier legs.’]
