A simple, colorful layered dessert perfect for Fourth of July or any summer gathering, serving 20 people with red, white, and blue jello layers and a creamy middle.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (3-ounce / 85g) packets of strawberry or cherry flavored gelatin (red jello)
  • 2 (3-ounce / 85g) packets of blue raspberry gelatin (blue jello)
  • 4 cups (960 ml) cold water, divided
  • 1 (14-ounce / 396g) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups (about 480 ml) whipped cream or whipped topping
  • Optional garnishes: fresh blueberries and sliced strawberries
  • 20 clear plastic cups, 8-ounce (240 ml) size

Instructions

  1. Dissolve 2 packets of red gelatin in 2 cups (480 ml) boiling water. Stir for about 2 minutes until fully dissolved.
  2. Add 1 cup (240 ml) cold water to the red gelatin mixture and mix well.
  3. Pour about 1/4 cup (60 ml) of the red gelatin into each of the 20 cups.
  4. Refrigerate the cups for at least 30 minutes until the red layer is firm but not fully set.
  5. While the red layer chills, mix the sweetened condensed milk with the whipped cream in a bowl until smooth and light, folding gently.
  6. Once the red layer is firm, spoon about 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of the creamy white mixture over each cup, spreading gently.
  7. Return the cups to the refrigerator for 15 minutes to slightly set the white layer.
  8. Dissolve 2 packets of blue gelatin in 2 cups (480 ml) boiling water. Stir for 2 minutes until fully dissolved.
  9. Add 1 cup (240 ml) cold water to the blue gelatin mixture and mix well. Let cool to room temperature without setting.
  10. Carefully spoon approximately 1/4 cup (60 ml) of the blue gelatin over the white layer in each cup.
  11. Chill the cups again for another 30 minutes or until the blue layer is set.
  12. Before serving, optionally top each cup with fresh blueberries and sliced strawberries.

Notes

Chill each layer properly before adding the next to prevent mixing. Let the blue gelatin cool to room temperature before pouring to avoid melting the white layer. Use clear cups for best presentation. The recipe can be adapted for dairy-free by substituting coconut condensed milk and coconut whipped topping. Sugar-free gelatin packets can be used for a less sweet version.
