These easy-to-make dark chocolate protein balls combine oats, honey, nut butter, protein powder, and dark chocolate for a quick, wholesome, and delicious snack perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (90g) rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup (125g) natural nut butter (almond or peanut butter, unsweetened; sunflower seed butter for nut-free option)
  • 1/4 cup (85g) honey (raw honey preferred)
  • 1/2 cup (90g) dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate (at least 70% cacao)
  • 1/2 cup (40g) protein powder (mild, unflavored or vanilla whey or plant-based)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup (90g) rolled oats and 1/2 cup (40g) protein powder. Stir until well blended.
  2. Add 1/2 cup (125g) natural nut butter and 1/4 cup (85g) honey. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is sticky. If too dry, add a teaspoon of water or extra honey gradually.
  3. Gently fold in 1/2 cup (90g) dark chocolate chips or chopped chocolate, keeping them intact.
  4. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions and roll into balls using your hands. If mixture sticks, dampen hands slightly with water. Place balls on a lined baking sheet or plate.
  5. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to firm up. Alternatively, freeze for 15 minutes if in a hurry.
  6. Enjoy immediately or store extras in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Notes

Chilling the balls is crucial to prevent them from being sticky and crumbly. Use mild vanilla or unflavored protein powder to avoid chalky texture. Slightly warming thick nut butter helps mixing. For vegan version, substitute honey with maple syrup and use plant-based protein powder. Store in airtight container in refrigerator for up to one week or freeze up to two months.
