These crispy mummy hot dog appetizers wrapped in flaky crescent dough are a quick, fun, and festive treat perfect for Halloween parties. They combine buttery dough with juicy hot dogs and a playful spooky look.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Hot dogs (regular or mini-sized)
  • 1 package (8 oz or 227g) crescent dough, chilled
  • Yellow mustard (for the eyes)
  • Black sesame seeds or small edible seeds (optional, for eyes)
  • 1 beaten egg mixed with 1 teaspoon water (egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Open the crescent dough package and carefully unroll it onto a clean surface. Gently press the perforations together to form one large sheet.
  3. Slice the dough into thin strips about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) wide using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  4. Cut the hot dogs in half if using full-size, or leave mini hot dogs whole.
  5. Wrap each hot dog piece by spiraling the dough strips around it, leaving gaps to peek through like mummy wrappings. Do not wrap too tightly.
  6. Place the wrapped mummies seam side down on the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart.
  7. Brush each mummy with egg wash to encourage a golden, crispy finish.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crescent dough is puffed and golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool for 2 minutes.
  10. Use a small dot of yellow mustard for the eyes on each mummy, or place two black sesame seeds as an alternative.
  11. Serve warm with ketchup, mustard, or your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

Keep crescent dough slightly chilled until slicing to prevent stickiness. Wrap dough strips loosely to allow puffing and crisping. Use egg wash generously for a golden crust. Watch oven closely after 12 minutes to prevent burning; tent with foil if needed. Mini hot dogs or cocktail sausages make great bite-sized mummies. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheat in oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes to retain crispiness.
