A fun and spooky Halloween appetizer featuring a spider web design made from crispy breadsticks, olives, and peppers, served with a creamy homemade ranch dip.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12–15 breadsticks or baguette wedges
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 large can black olives, sliced
  • 1 small red bell pepper, cut into thin strips
  • 1/2 cup green olives, sliced
  • 6–8 cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) ranch seasoning mix
  • 2–3 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). If using baguette, slice into 1/2-inch wedges, arrange on a baking sheet, brush with olive oil, sprinkle with garlic powder, and bake for 8-10 minutes until golden and crisp. Let cool completely.
  2. Slice black olives into rings. Cut red bell pepper into thin, long strips (about 3 inches). Slice cherry tomatoes in half.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, and ranch seasoning mix. Whisk until smooth. Gradually add buttermilk until desired consistency is reached. Stir in chopped chives. Cover and refrigerate.
  4. Arrange 12-15 breadsticks in a radial pattern on a serving platter, clustering one end in the center and fanning the other ends out to the edge.
  5. Weave additional breadsticks or pepper strips across the radial spokes to create a spiral web effect.
  6. Place black olive slices in web intersections for spider bodies and add red pepper strips for legs. Arrange 2-3 spiders around the web.
  7. Place halved cherry tomatoes in the center as ‘brains’ or larger bugs. Use green olive slices and small pepper pieces for smaller bugs.
  8. Place a small bowl of ranch dip in the center of the web. Garnish with extra chives or a pepper spider.
  9. Serve immediately for maximum crispiness.

Notes

Pat olives and peppers dry before arranging to prevent soggy breadsticks. Assemble the tray just before serving to maintain crispiness. Store components separately if preparing ahead.
