A quick and easy air fryer recipe that transforms simple ham steaks into a crispy, juicy meal with a sweet caramelized glaze. Perfect for busy weeknights or casual dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Ham steaks, about 1-inch thick, bone-in or boneless, pre-cooked (preferably hickory-smoked)
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Pinch of ground black pepper
  • Butter, unsalted, melted
  • Optional: pinch of smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and let it heat for 3-5 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar, honey (or maple syrup), Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, and black pepper until smooth. Set aside.
  3. Pat the ham steaks dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  4. Lightly brush both sides of the ham steaks with melted butter.
  5. Place ham steaks in the air fryer basket in a single layer without overlapping. Cook in batches if necessary.
  6. Cook for 7 minutes, flipping halfway through. At the 7-minute mark, brush one side generously with the glaze.
  7. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, flip again, and brush the other side with glaze. Watch closely after 12 minutes total to avoid burning.
  8. Remove ham steaks and let rest for 3 minutes before serving to allow juices to settle and glaze to set.

Notes

Brush the glaze halfway through cooking to avoid burning the sugars. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket for best crispiness. Let ham rest after cooking to lock in moisture. For thicker ham steaks (1.5 inches or more), add 2-3 extra minutes of cooking time. If edges brown too fast, reduce air fryer temperature by 10-15°F.
