A quick and easy snack featuring tender asparagus wrapped in crispy bacon, cooked perfectly in the air fryer for a savory and satisfying bite.

  • 1 pound fresh asparagus spears (about 450g), firm and bright green with closed tips
  • 8 to 10 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Pinch of salt (optional)
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Optional: grated Parmesan cheese for sprinkling after cooking

Instructions

  1. Trim the asparagus by snapping off the woody ends where the tender part begins (about 5 minutes).
  2. Place asparagus in a bowl, drizzle with olive oil, then sprinkle garlic powder, black pepper, and salt if desired. Toss until evenly coated.
  3. Take 3 to 4 asparagus spears and wrap one strip of bacon around the middle, overlapping slightly. Lay each bundle on a baking sheet or plate. Do not wrap too tightly.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes.
  5. Arrange the bacon-wrapped asparagus bundles in a single layer in the air fryer basket with space around each for air circulation. Cook in batches if needed.
  6. Air fry for 10-12 minutes at 400°F (200°C). Halfway through (5-6 minutes), use tongs to carefully flip each bundle for even crisping.
  7. Check doneness; if bacon isn’t crispy enough, cook 1-2 more minutes watching closely to avoid burning. Asparagus should be fork-tender but not mushy.
  8. Optional: Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over bundles immediately after cooking while still hot.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even crisping. Thick-cut bacon crisps better than thin slices. Preheat the air fryer for best results. Flip bundles halfway through cooking to avoid soggy spots. If bacon is very thick, add 1-2 extra minutes of cooking time. Optional Parmesan cheese adds a nice finishing touch. For oven cooking, bake at 425°F (220°C) on a wire rack for 15-18 minutes, flipping halfway.
